The .gr domain is registered as the country-specific top-level domain of Greece -this extension is a country code top-level domain, abbreviated ccTLD. Officially the .gr top-level domain was introduced in 1989. Since then it is possible to buy and register this kind of top-level domain. The Greek registry FORTH with headquarter in Heraklion manages all registered .gr domains.
Originally exclusively Greek individuals were allowed to get personal .gr domains but since August 2004 the guidelines were overhauled and now every webmaster and administrator in the whole world is able to buy his own .gr domain.

Registrations will be checked by the registry with five working days. In exceptional cases it could be that a registration is not approved. In this case the domain will be deleted. A refund of the costs is excluded.
